St Michaels Cricket Festival 18th June

St Michael’s Cricket Club, in conjunction with the Scottish Cricket Union, will be hosting a cricket festival on Friday, June 18, 4.15-6.30pm, at Kingholm Park, Dumfries.

This is a follow up to the free coaching the club has been providing in many local schools in Dumfries and in and around Annan over the last five weeks.

On average, over 550 primary aged boys and girls have received cricket coaching on a weekly basis during the programme.

The cricket festival is free of charge for all primary aged children and everyone is welcome to come along and either have a go at the great game of cricket for the first time or continue their development in a fun format.

Iain Stewart (SCU West Community Development Manager) said: “St Michael’s Cricket Club is a great example of whole club development with an excellent schools programme.

“This festival is a great follow up to the schools programme and is aimed to encourage as many boys and girls to take up the game.

“We are delighted to be working alongside St Michael’s in the development of the game in Dumfries and Galloway this year and for many years to come.”

All boys and girls will have the chance to bat, bowl and field using kwik-cricket equipment and at the same time receive specialised coaching from coaches from both St. Michael’s and SCU.

Girls’ cricket will be a high priority as Lea Tsui (Girls and Women’s Development Officer) and her team of coaches will attend the festival to encourage girls’ participation in the game.

Lea said: “St Michael’s Cricket Club have put in a huge effort to organise what will be a fantastic event.

“They’re providing a great opportunity for girls and boys in the community to come together and have fun playing cricket.

“So boys and girls, get yourself to Kingholm Park and go for a big hit!”

Certificates will be given to all who take part in the festival, whilst prizes will also be presented to the best batter, best bowler, best fielder and best represented school on the day.
