DG U13s undone by Ayrshire

Once again it was an understrength Dumfries & Galloway under-13 side which travelled on Sunday – this time for their second match of the season – against a strong Ayrshire team. But this time they came home with their tails firmly between their legs. In fact it was only thanks to Freddie Graham-Campbell that respectability was achieved – his heroics with bat and ball managed to camouflage some of the differences between the sides. His 48 runs with the bat and 4/38 with the ball was as good a performance as any on the day.

Bowling first our region’s boys opened with Colin Little and Ben Walker. Colin was his usual dependable self but Ben found difficulty controlling the swing of the new ball and conceded 19 runs in 2 overs. However he came back to be the pick of the bowlers with his next 5 overs going for only the same amount and being rewarded with a wicket. Aiden Collingwood also took a wicket with a good caught and bowled.

The run-rate was never a problem in the D&G innings but 2 run-outs did not help matters and Colin Little was the only other batter to achieve double figures. So despite Freddie’s excellent batting the innings subsided to 94 all out in reply to Ayrshire’s 212 for 6.
The team will be looking for better availability and a better result against Clyde on 4 July.
