Summer Cricket for Primary Schools

Chris Stewart D&G Community Cricket Coach

The Dumfries and Galloway Community Cricket Coach, Chris Stewart, is bringing more cricket to more local schools.

During the summer term he has been out and about delivering over seventy cricket sessions at twelve schools in the region; the Primary Schools at Newington, Loreburn, Lockerbie, Caerlaverock, Locharbriggs, Noblehill, Mouswald, Ae, Amisfield, Collin, and Cargenbridge and Langholm Academy.

For most, these visits consisted of a series of sessions and varied between curriculum time, lunchtimes and after-school clubs.

Andy Reed from the Council’s Sport and Leisure Department said “The post of Dumfries and Galloway Community Cricket Coach has had a significant impact in schools across the region. The partnership between Cricket Scotland and Dumfries and Galloway Council has enable the sport to provide sustainable opportunities for children to take part in physical activity a key component to making children within the region healthier.”

The post of local community coach is part-financed by the Scottish Government and the European Community, Dumfries and Galloway Leader 2007-2013 programme and is also supported by Cricket Scotland, Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Leisure and Sport department, and local cricket clubs.
