Testing Trial for DG U13s

Sunday’s first trial / practice match for this season’s Dumfries & Galloway under 13 team was won by Chris McBride’s team. This, what is becoming an annual “test match” 2-innings affair, as usual, started unspectacularly but then built-up momentum before coming crashing to a conclusion. Colin Little’s side were first to bat and Ross Crawford and Chris Lumb made steady progress and the pair put on fifty for the first wicket before Crawford was rather unluckily stumped for 17. Chris Lumb went on to an impressive half-century but some good catching then put paid to any thoughts of a declaration and the innings subsided to 92 all out.

In reply the initial bowling gave nothing away and it was not until Todd Rafferty (36) joined his skipper that the runs started to flow but flow they did – the partnership being worth 81 in just 12 overs and allowed the declaration 12 runs ahead. Colin’s team’s second innings then imploded – looking for some quick runs to set up a run-chase, they were not able to cope with the pace and accuracy of Aiden Collingwood and the match came suddenly to an end – the required 2 runs for victory were quickly made and the 5 wicket victory was achieved with plenty overs to spare.

It was fitting that Chris himself scored the winning runs to add to his first innings 44 not out and his match figures of 2-29 in 9 overs. Chris Lumb was also a double wicket-taker and run-maker and James Cook took a couple of wickets as well but the pick of the bowlers, and arguably man-of-match, was Aiden Collingwood with match figures of 5-33 in 9 overs and second innings figures of 3-5 in 3 overs.
