More Cricket Coaches for the Region

The local support for cricket was enhanced over Easter with the delivery of an Introduction to Cricket course at the David Keswick Centre. The focussed course was aimed at taking cricket sessions indoors and in the small spaces which can apply in schools. The seven that benefitted included Active School Volunteers, PE teachers and youth players who assist in club sessions.

The course was initiated by Active Schools Co-ordinator Sue Brodie with the assistance of the Dumfries and Galloway Junior Cricket Development Group. She commented that “The course was a great introduction for people interested in delivering fun cricket practices and games to primary school children and it has given Active Schools the opportunity to organise a programme of cricket after school clubs that will develop into a league organised in partnership with the cricket clubs in Dumfries.”

The session was led by the West Community Development Manager, Iain Stewart, and Chris Stewart the Dumfries and Galloway Community Cricket Coach. The post of local community coach is being part-financed by the Scottish Government and the European Community, Dumfries and Galloway Leader 2007-2013 programme.
