DG U13s Defeated by Glasgow North

Dumfries and Galloway U13s travelled to Glasgow Accies Cricket ground last Monday to take on Glasgow North. The DG side won the toss and decided to bowl first. Niall Alexander of Dumfries and Dominic Little of Langholm opened the bowling. It was an uneasy start for the pair as 9 wides were bowled of the first 2 overs.

However they soon started to find their stride and Alexander took the first wicket clean bowling the Glasgow opener. Alexander’s pace was troubling the batsmen but it was Dominic Little who struck next with a brilliant yorker.

Dominic then took another wicket as the batsmen lofted a ball straight to Steven Morrison. The fielding by D&G was impressive with Chris Lumb of Dumfries standing out after a few brilliant stops.

Colin Little and Steven Morrison both of Langholm came into the attack and Colin was soon in the wickets taking 4 wickets in his first 4 over spell. Steven Morrison bowled well and was unlucky not to take a wicket.

Skipper Alexander then turned to Callum Bell and Chris McBride and after 8 overs between them this pair managed to bowl 7 maidens with Callum Bell picking up one wicket.

Glasgow North on 58 for 8 when Colin Little came back into the attack and it was he who finished it off taking the last 2 wickets to leave Glasgow North 60 all out.

With only 61 runs needed to win off 35 overs the D&G boys were confident of victory. However the reply started really badly as D&G lost 4 wickets in the first 6 overs. The pace of the opening bowlers gave the batsmen problems with both Chris Lumb and Chris McBride out for golden ducks.

Andrew Geddes and Callum Bell steadied the innings and took the score up to 37 for 6 and things were looking promising as both batsmen were starting to play some nice shots but then Bell edged a ball to the wicket keeper for 14.

Colin Little was next in and he needed to build a partnership with Geddes. This wasn’t to be as third ball Little edged on to his stumps. Geddes soon followed and the score was languishing on 39 for 9.

Dominic Little and Steven Morrison were now at the crease and things were looking bleak for D&G with 22 needed by the last wicket partnership to win. Steven hit a cracking 4 and at that point the rain came on. When play resumed the pair only added one more run before Morrison was clean bowled.

This was a disappointing end to the day especially after the great effort in the field. Pick of the bowlers was Colin Little taking 6 wickets and the top scorer with the bat was Callum Bell with 14.
