DG U12s cut their teeth

Dumfries and Galloway ’s next batch of young cricketers cut their teeth on Sunday against the Borders. The under 12s – with some making their “real cricket” debut – came up short but not without showing some potential. Bowling first, Fraser Strachan and Robbie Matthews were the wicket-takers – a brace apiece in a total of 145 for 5 in 25 overs.

In reply the undoubted top performance of the day came from Dean Brotherstone who got to his fifty with a wonderful straight drive – a shot which typified his innings. He was well backed up by Chris Lumb (25) and Chris McBride had an impressive cameo at the end to add to his earlier wicket. The final total of 121 for 3 was not enough for victory but certainly enough to give the youngsters confidence that they have what it takes to win matches in the future.
