DG U13 League: Champions decided

Dumfries Injuns won the D&G Junior Cricket League last Sunday with an excellent victory over Langholm/Lockerbie Thunder.

Batting first, the Injuns’ Chris Lumb got his half-century – which had been cruelly denied him the previous week and along with Chris McBride was the mainstay of the innings. Captain Temlett came in near the end and made sure of a fine total. Callum Bell was the pick of the Thunder bowlers, clean bowling both his victims.

The Injuns bowling proved to be just too accurate for the Thunder – Michael Temlett and Aiden Collingwood opened and gave very little away and at the same time made inroads into the batting through the captain. Then Chris McBride and Todd Rafferty followed up with equally impressive stuff – McBride’s leg-spin being especially effective leaking a mere 3 runs from his 4 overs. A feature of the side’s bowling was the lack of wides – only 2 from the 17 overs bowled. Ross Crawford was the only batter who coped and a fine innings it was – coming in at three and almost carrying his bat in making half his side’s total.

Match Details:
Dumfries Injuns 126 for 3 (C Lumb 55, C McBride 36no; C Bell 2-27)
Langholm/Lockerbie Thunder 42 all out (R Crawford 22; M Temlett 4-8)

This Sunday the junior season goes into stage 2 with a trial match played by 2 teams from which the regional team will be selected for warm-up matches against the Borders followed by the West Area Championship in July/August. This “test” match will be played at Nunholm and will start at 10 am and go well into the afternoon and is a chance for anyone to have a look at the region’s future cricketing stars.
