DG U17s beat Gatehouse

Dumfries and Galloway Under 17s won against Gatehouse CC on Sunday in a match designed to give the region’s youth team a good work-out in preparation for a couple of area matches arranged for the month ahead. The hosts put out a team full of quality if not quantity but the Under 17s were up to the task.

Gatehouse batted first on a hot day and Sachin set the standards with a fine display of stroke-making but the fielding and bowling was equally impressive – catches were taken, as was the stumping chance, ground-fielding was solid, a direct hit resulted in a run-out and extras were kept to a minimum. Even when the foot was put on the accelerator pedal the youngsters did not wilt.

The wickets were shared around with Anthony Hulatt the only bowler to take 2 wickets. His figures – as did those of his skipper, Telfer, suffered at the hands of some fine hitting but that did not detract from their performances. The pick of the bowlers was Chris Edgar who only conceded 9 runs from his allotted 8 overs – which he bowled in 3 spells against all the main batters.

It was Douglas Brotherstone and Adam Elliot who caught the eye with the bat – both playing highly entertaining innings and made sure that the victory was achieved with overs to spare. But it was Robbie Carson who steered the side home with a quiet but efficient unbeaten knock.
