DG U13 League: Wins for the Dumfries sides

The second week of the Dumfries & Galloway Junior Cricket League had Langholm/Lockerbie Thunder playing Dumfries Indians at Castleholm and Dumfries Cowboys playing Langholm Lightning at Nunholm.

At Langholm it was the Dumfries Indians who prevailed by dint of their bowlers with Michael Temlett to the fore taking 4/10. He was ably backed up by Todd Rafferty (3/14) and Chris McBride (2/17). Callum Bell (12 runs) and C Harris (13) top-scored for the Lightning who could not quite bat out their full 20 overs. In reply Chris Lumb made sure of victory with 22 runs out of the 56/3 needed.

At Dumfries the Cowboys batted first and a second wicket partnership of 40 between Dean Brotherstone and Gordon Walker set up the winning total. This was against some tight bowling with Colin Little in particular giving nothing away. Chris Berry then took advantage of the platform with an unbeaten 29. Colin Little’s 2/7 from 6 overs was very impressive.

In reply the Langholm side never quite got to grips with the bowling but perhaps thought that with Gregor Masterton having set himself up with 19 runs that they could push on towards the target of 87.

Niall Alexander put paid to any such thoughts with a display of class bowling – he got the wicket of Masterton with his first ball and completed figures of 3/1 from his 4 overs. The Littles – Dominic and Colin – had a flurry at the end but by then the damage had been done – 57 for 7 not quite enough.
