DG U13 League: Langholm/Lockerbie win in close finish

Sunday saw the start of the D&G U13 league for the Langholm teams.

Langholm/Lockerbie took on Langholm at the Castleholm with the sun shining. The match was 14 overs per side and despite a slow start it turned into a bit of a thriller with the Langholm/Lockerbie team just coming out on top.

Langholm/Lockerbie batted first on the artificial wicket and were soon in trouble. After 4 overs they were 9/4 without a run being scored off the bat, the runs had come via wides and byes. However, Liam Rogerson and Ross Rae batted well together and started to gain in confidence. When Rogerson (2) was bowled by Colin Little it was left to the two Ross’s, Rae and Crawford to get some runs. They did just that with Rae (22) including a very impressive six and Crawford (7no). Eventually Langholm/Lockerbie were all out for 71. Colin Little grabbed five wickets with Dominic Little getting three.

In reply, Langholm started well and were 11/1 after three overs. However, Calum Bell and Ross Rae produced some fine bowling to restrict Langholm to 43/6 from 11 overs. This left Langholm needing 29 off three overs with Masterton and McCulloch at the wicket. Some good shot selection from Gregor Masterton (18) put Langholm in with a chance of before he was caught by Rae off the bowling of Murray. Langholm couldn’t score off the last two balls and lost out by 7 runs.

Overall, a very entertaining game with some really good cricket being played at times.

Langholm/Lockerbie 74 all out
Ross Rae 22, Ross Crawford 7no
Colin Little 3.4 – 0 – 9 – 5,  Dominic Little 4 – 1 – 20 – 3

Langholm 64/7 (14 overs)
